A celebration broke out Wednesday after Vivian Legette of Monroe bought a $5 scratch-off and won the first $150,000 top prize in a new lottery game.
“At first I thought I won $5,000,” Legette recalled. “Then my granddaughter checked it for me and she said, ‘Grandma you’ve got 10 numbers!’”
That’s when Legette began to celebrate.
“I started jumping up and down,” she recalled laughing.
Legette bought her lucky Jungle Cashword ticket from the Food Lion on East Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe.
“I bought that one because I like crosswords and it just came out,” Legette said.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $108,016.
Legette plans to use her winnings to pay bills and share with her family.
The Jungle Cashword game debuted this week with five $150,000 top prizes. Four $150,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
