Donald Bunn of Rocky Mount used to tell friends he would win big playing the lottery and on Saturday morning it happened when a $30 scratch-off won him a $100,000 top prize.
“I told my buddies I was going to hit for $100,000,” he said. “It was just my time.”
Bunn bought his lucky $100,000 Cash Payday ticket from Dabney Speed EZS Mart on Western Boulevard in Tarboro.
“This is the best feeling in the world,” Bunn said.
He arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,018.
Bunn says he may use his winnings to buy a house.
The $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted in March with 80 $100,000 top prizes. Sixty-five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
Edgecombe County received a $62 million grant from money raised by the lottery to help with school construction. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
