Erik Cargile of Charlotte said he saw a lottery win in his future right before taking home a $100,000 Powerball prize.
“Lately I have been having visions of winning the lottery,” he laughed.
Cargile bought his lucky $3 Quick Pick ticket for the June 10 drawing from the Quik Trip on West W.T. Harris Boulevard in Charlotte. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. Because he bought a Power Play ticket, his prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier hit.
Cargile said he knew he won a prize when he scanned his ticket but didn’t know how much he won until he arrived in Raleigh to claim his prize.
“I was thinking maybe like $10,000,” Cargile said. “It was a shocking feeling when I heard.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim his winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $72,011.
He plans to use his winnings to buy a house.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot stands at a $348 million annuity or $157.5 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
