Powerball jackpot tops half a billion with Mega Millions at $672 million

Mega Millions and Powerball continue to stay as hot as the North Carolina weather with the two jackpots totaling almost $1.2 billion this weekend.

The Mega Millions jackpot ranks as the tenth largest in its history. A winner in tonight’s Mega Millions drawing would have the choice of taking home the $672 million jackpot as an annuity or $293.3 million in cash.

A winner in Saturday’s Powerball drawing would have the choice of taking home the $526 million jackpot as an annuity or $233.5 million in cash.

Even though both jackpots are still on a roll, players are taking home lots of other prizes playing Mega Millions and Powerball. Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing produced over 11,300 winning tickets in North Carolina. Wednesday’s Powerball drawing saw over 17,500 winning tickets.

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290 million. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Players can buy Mega Millions or Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Winners are notified within 48 hours of the draw day via email. If we don't hear back, we'll give the winner a phone call and will send a certified letter to the address on the winner's account if we need to. Since the only way we can get in contact with a potential winner is by the info on their NC Lottery account, this is a great reminder to always keep your info up to date!

NCEL, the major National Lottery pools and NC weather may be hot, but Hell's flames are even hotter for what the national/state lotteries and government have allowed to continue at the expense of the people for a subsidized tax. It wouldn't matter if you were a private business but you're representing the government when you mix funds with state run agencies like schools etc. Shame to those who knowingly allow these games to rigged as it says a lot about where our society is going.
