Ebony Jacobs of Fayetteville stopped at a convenience store to buy her daughter a snack and walked away with a $200,000 top prize.
“Playing the lottery is my happy place,” she said.
Jacobs bought her lucky $5 Mega Bucks ticket from the PMG Short Stop on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville. She then took the ticket to her truck to scratch it.
“I had to put my other glasses on to check it because I was just in shock,” Jacobs laughed. “My heart was racing.”
She arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $144,021.
“This is coming at a great time,” Jacobs said.
She plans to use her winnings to buy a car and take a family vacation.
The Mega Bucks game debuted in June with five top prizes of $200,000. Three $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
