Cassandra Joyner of Pikeville started celebrating in the store with her partner after a $30 scratch-off produced a $100,000 top prize.
“We were doing our happy dance and screaming,” she recalled. “Then we cried.”
Joyner bought her lucky $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off from 919 Wireless And Vape on Goldsboro Street in Pikeville.
“I still don’t quite believe it,” Joyner said.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,018.
“Trust me this was needed,” Joyner said.
She plans to use her winnings to pay bills.
The $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted in March with 80 $100,000 top prizes. Fifty-nine $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
