Raymond Johnson of Bunnlevel sat on his front porch Sunday scratching a lottery ticket when all of a sudden his life changed after seeing a $1 million top prize.
“It just so happens that yesterday was my lucky day,” he said.
Johnson said the timing works out perfectly for his family.
“Last Saturday we were looking at a house,” he said.
Johnson bought his lucky $10 Triple Red 777 Jackpot ticket from Super Save on N.C. 27 West in Lillington.
“I just go with my first instinct and it was to get that one,” he recalled.
When Johnson arrived at lottery headquarters Monday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required tax withholdings, took home $432,063.
Johnson plans to use the money to buy a car and a house for his family.
The Triple Red 777 Jackpot game debuted in July with three top prizes of $1 million. One $1 million prize remains to be claimed.
