The Powerball jackpot received a $25 million boost on Tuesday due to strong ticket sales to push Wednesday’s massive prize to $1 billion.
A winner in tonight’s drawing would have the choice of taking home the $1 billion jackpot as an annuity or $433.1 million in cash. If won, the jackpot would rank as the eighth largest in Powerball’s history.
As the jackpot keeps climbing, North Carolinians keep taking home other big prizes too. Monday marked the fifth consecutive Powerball drawing where a ticket in North Carolina won at least $50,000. The lucky $2 ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball to win a $50,000 prize. The winning ticket came from Murphy USA on Tanglewood Parkway in Elizabeth City.
The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Players can buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
