Charles Moody of Thomasville says nothing surprises him anymore, but that changed after he won $100,000 playing the Stacks of Cash scratch-off game.
“I pulled my glasses off because I had to take a triple look at it,” Moody said.
For years, he would tell people, “I’m going to hit big one of these days.” On Wednesday, he finally did.
Moody bought his lucky ticket at Marts To Go on Randolph Road in Thomasville.
The odds of that win were 1 in 735,960. “You’ve just got to be in the right place at the right time,” Moody said.
He arrived at the lottery headquarters Thursday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,016.
Moody plans to use his winnings to help take care of his grandchildren.
Education programs in Davidson County received $9.6 million in support from lottery funds last year. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
