David Butler Jr. of Raleigh took a chance on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and won the $1,138,307 jackpot in Friday’s drawing.
He bought his lucky ticket at the Food Lion on Strickland Road in Raleigh.
Butler selected Quick Pick and matched all five white balls. The odds of that happening are 1 in 962,598.
He came to the lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his prize. After state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $819,695.
The next Cash 5 drawing is on Monday. The jackpot currently sits at $120,000.
