Johnnie Biddix Jr. of Hendersonville was on his way to go fishing Monday when he decided to try his luck at the Cash 5 and reeled in a $436,796 jackpot.
“I’m shocked, to say the least,” said Biddix.
He plans to use his winnings to take his twin grandsons on a cruise vacation.
Biddix bought his $1 Cash 5 ticket at Triangle Stop Food Store on Upward Road in Flat Rock. He matched all five white balls. The odds of that win are 1 in 962,598.
When he realized he had won, he called his daughter to share the good news. She, however, was unconvinced.
“She said, ‘No you didn’t, no you didn’t,’” Biddix laughed. “I had to take her to lunch to prove it to her.”
Biddix arrived at the lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim his prize. After state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $314,537.
Thursday’s Cash 5 jackpot sits at $120,000.
