Fredda Downing of Colerain shared a tender family moment when she won a $110,000 jackpot playing Cash 5 on Monday.
“I cried when I won. Then, I called my sisters and they started crying too,” said Downing.
Downing decided to try her luck with a $1 ticket at Duck Thru on West Main Street in Harrellsville. While she usually had a set of numbers she liked to play, she decided to go out on a limb and pick randomly.
“I went eeny, meeny, miny, moe, and circled what I landed on,” laughed Downing.
She matched all five white balls, the odds of which are 1 in 962,598.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” smiled Downing. “The joy I feel is amazing.”
Downing arrived at the lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim her prize. After state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $79,214.
She plans to use her winnings to pay bills and buy a home.
Thursday’s Cash 5 drawing features a $120,000 jackpot.
