Claim Centers reopen on Monday

Our six Claim Centers across the state will reopen Monday so that lottery players who have winning tickets can collect their prizes.

We’ll be following strict safety guidelines, as outlined in the state’s Phase 1 plan that allows retail businesses to reopen, to protect your health and that of lottery employees.

Those guidelines include:
  • Allowing only a few people into a Claim Center at a time to create the space for proper social distancing during the claims process. We’ll ask others to wait in their vehicles outside until their group is called.
  • Requiring anyone entering a Claim Center to wear a mask or facial coverings. To protect your safety, lottery employees will be wearing personal protective equipment including mask or facial coverings and gloves.
  • Requiring visitors to our Claim Centers to practice social distancing, staying at least six feet apart from others. We’ve set up our Claim Centers, both inside and outside, to assist you with that safety measure.
If you choose to visit a Claim Center during the first week, please expect the visit to take longer than normal.

To avoid a long wait, remember you have an extended deadline to claim prizes. Winners of lottery prizes on tickets expiring between March 10 and Aug. 1 have until Nov. 1 to claim them.

You also have other options to claim a prize.
  • Prizes up to $599 can be cashed, as usual, at retail locations.
  • Prizes of $600 to $99,999 can also be claimed by signing your ticket and mailing it to lottery headquarters.
Prizes of $100,000 or more must be claimed in person at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

Remember you must bring a photo ID, verifying your name, signature and age to claim a prize, and your Social Security card.

Information on how to claim prizes can be found at www.nclottery.com/ClaimPrizes and you can also download a claim form there. For additional assistance, call Customer Services at 1-877-962-7529, option 0.

We know some of you have been waiting a long time to collect the prize you won. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we balance our responsibility to public health and to our players.

on the earn point tab... you have been asking a survey question... will we ever see the results ?NC Lottery
Hey there Betty, Thanks for asking. The survey questions we've been asking on the Earn Points page are to help us create games and improvements that our players have expressed interest in. We don't have plans to publish the results of any of those surveys at this time.

Hey there Betty, We're not sure what that is, so we can't say for sure.

There have been a couple of times when I scratch off or uncover the code to scan and it says that I have already scanned this ticket. And a couple of times it gave a “ Gateway Error” code. Anybody else had this problem? Also, are you still taking ideas for scratch off ticket designs? I got a cool one.NC Lottery
Hey there Brian, This could happen for a few reasons, one being that the ticket reader is simply misreading the ticket when you try to scan it. The next time this happens, please reach out to our online support team at nclottery.com/Help and let them know what's going on. They should be able to take a closer look.

Hi Mrs. Williams, I wanted to ensure you are entering the correct code for your ticket. If you visit this page https://nclottery.com/RewardsTicketEntry and click on "Where do I find these numbers?" a guide will pop up to assist with entering codes. (you can also always scan the ticket with our app to enter it for Lucke Rewards points and 2nd Chance drawings) If you're still receiving an invalid error, please reach out to our online tech support team at https://nclottery.com/Help

Hello NCEL. I'm having issues with my App on my phone with the "ticket checker" portion. After i did an update, the ticket checker doesn't properly scan the bar codes. I have to scan it multiple times to get it to work. I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or maybe it's my cellphone?NC Lottery
Hey there John, Thanks for letting us know about this. We aren't aware of any widespread issues with the ticket checker at the moment, but we encourage you to reach out to our Online Support team at nclottery.com/Help and they can look into this.

I did as you recommended, and the reply I got was that the second Chance drawings have not happened yet and they are being conducted in phases.....I am confused, please clarify if they have or have not happens starting with the May multiply the cash second chance.NC Lottery
Hi there Gary, That is correct, our second-chance drawings are meant to last the lifetime of a game, so they are dispersed over the course of several months. Of the drawings that were supposed to take place during our closure, all have been caught back up. There are still a few drawings left in the Multiply The Cash series that have not reached their scheduled draw date yet and so those ones have not been conducted yet.

7/16/2020 05:37 - Gary K.

When are the 2nd Chance drawings starting back up?NC Lottery
Hi there Gary, All of the drawings that were delayed due to the closure of our offices have been conducted and the winners have been notified. The winners of the May Multiply The Cash second-chance drawing are posted on the 2nd Chance Draws page. If they aren't displaying for you, please reach out to our support team at nclottery.com/Help and they can help figure out why.

7/16/2020 05:35 - Gary K.

On the app, the may multiplier 2nd Chance drawing is not showing any winners yet....did this drawing take place? NC Lottery
Hey Gary, We replied to your question above!

I have a friend that says 40% comes off the top of any Cash 5 winning prior to taxes, is this true? Don't you just pay the acquired federal and state taxes determined on the amount won?NC Lottery
Hi Kim, only the standard tax deductions are withheld for a Cash 5 jackpot win. 24% for Federal taxes and 5.25% for State taxes.

6/02/2020 05:50 - Nathaniel L.

I have three scratch tickets that will not be accepted into the Lucky Rewards. Will you help me to understand why?NC Lottery
Hi Nathaniel, We're sorry about that. There are several reasons why you might be running into issues entering a ticket. A ticket could be expired, or you could be holding the ticket too close or too far when scanning it. If you continue to have trouble entering these tickets, you can reach out to our online support team at nclottery.com/Help and someone can work with you to figure out what's causing this to happen.

5/28/2020 11:41 - Louis P.

I lost phone but I believe I won lucky rewards or second chance how to find outNC Lottery
Hi there Louis, We attempt to contact winners several different ways. First, winners are sent an email. After that, we do give winners a phone call and leave a message if necessary. Finally, we will send a certified letter to the winner's address. We'd suggest checking your email inbox for any notification first.

Was very very impressed today at the safety measures taken. Thank you. NC Lottery
Thanks for the great feedback, Demarie, and congrats on your win!

5/11/2020 03:50 - Tim M.

Hey LZ, a question. You said that players who had winning tickets have until November 1st now to claim instead of May 31st or whenever it was. My question is, how about non-winning tickets for collecting points? You have several scratch-offs that was until May 31st. Has that been extended or do I need to place my focus on them now? NC Lottery
Thanks for asking, Tim. With the deadline to claim prizes on these games extended, you should be able to continue to enter them for points and/or entries up to the game's new expiration date.

5/10/2020 12:38 - Berry B.

please update the scratch off games,to see what prizes is left??NC Lottery
Hey Berry, We update the prizes remaining at the end of each day. As our claims centers reopen and folks come in to claim some of the larger prizes they've been holding onto, you'll see those updated even more.

5/10/2020 11:04 - Denver G.

Thank goodness!!!! The claim centers are opening. Trips hit. We had another C5 online winner. Now maybe people will stop complaining. We all know that's not gonna happen. Because the same people come on here week after week complaining about the same silly stuff over and over again. And NO it is not rigged and the computer does NOT know what color you are !!!!

5/10/2020 12:44 - Reneta M.

Just in time for 444 winners over 4 million dollars. I will be sitting home not collecting.

5/08/2020 03:41 - ronald t.

Hi Ronald, We haven't yet set a date for the postponed drawings, but we plan to make an announcement on when those will take place as soon as possible.
