In Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, North Carolinians have a chance to win a $378 million jackpot, the largest in a year.

The jackpot stands as the highest since last June 7 when a $522 million jackpot was won. A winner could take home Friday’s $378 million jackpot as an annuity or as $297.6 million cash.

“The chance to win a big jackpot makes playing Mega Millions fun,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “Remember if you do try there are nine ways to win. Besides the jackpot, you also could win prizes ranging from $2 to $5 million.”

For example, in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing 24,784 prizes were won, ranging from $2 to $1,500, in North Carolina. That added up to $163,248 in prizes.

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million.

In Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot, a ticket sold in West Virginia won the $136.4 million jackpot. Saturday’s jackpot resets to its starting amount, $20 million, or $15.8 million cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Players can buy $2 Mega Millions or Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location, through Online Play on the lottery’s website www.nclottery.com or by using their N.C. Lottery Official Mobile app.

Ticket sales from draw games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.

Has anyone ever won a jackpot playing online?NC Lottery
Absolutely! While we haven't had any Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot wins come from online purchases yet, we have had countless Cash 5 jackpot wins, numerous $100,000-$2 million wins from Powerball and Mega Millions, as well as several Lucky For Life "for life" prizes. Back in December we rounded up some of the biggest Online Play wins at the time. Here's a link to that: https://nclottery.com/NewsBlogDetails/2019/12/2/10-biggest-online-play-wins

Good luck everyone. I'm in it to win it :D . But whoever wins hopefully needed the money.

Hi Philip. Yes! There have been two jackpot winners in NC—James Jones of Greenville won $57 million in 2011 and Mike Manheim of Greensboro won $12 million in 2010.
