Pick 4 players win $10.3 million with 0-0-0-0 numbers in Saturday drawing

The numbers 0-0-0-0 in Saturday afternoon’s Carolina Pick 4 drawing added up to a $10.3 million win for lottery players, the most ever won in a single drawing in the game.

The drawing produced 3,326 winning tickets. The game’s top prize of $5,000 will go to players who hold one of the 1,481 winning $1 tickets purchased for the drawing. A $2,500 prize will go to players who hold one of the 1,147 winning 50 cent tickets.

The winning numbers, 0-0-0-0, are known as “Quads” among Pick 4 players. Quads are some of the most popular combination of numbers played. The odds of matching all four numbers in a Pick 4 drawing are 1 in 10,000.

Remember you have 180 days to claim your prizes. Due to the large number of winners and COVID-19 safety procedures, you should expect extended waiting times to complete your claims if you choose to visit a regional office on Monday or Tuesday. You must bring a Photo ID and proof of your Social Security number to complete your claims. Prizes can also be claimed by mail.

The $10.3 million in prizes set a new record of prizes won in a single Pick 4 drawing. The previous record Pick 4 win occurred on Aug. 24, 2020 in the evening Pick 4 drawing when the numbers 9-9-9-9 paid out $9.2 million in prizes.

The prizes can be claimed at one of the six lottery’s regional offices. The offices open at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday and close at 5 p.m.

NCEL I am confused if the payout liability on Pick 4 is 10M then how did 10.3M get won as I was also one of the players who tried to play all quads and did not get the 0000 ticket? I know there are very low payout days so what happens to all the money taken in for those days? I know you all are not running a non profit, but this is crazy.NC Lottery

The liability limit is $10 million for Pick 4, but the actual payout amount may vary slightly as we cannot entirely anticipate which type of ticket (50-cent or $1) players will purchase. As for payouts, draw games are calculated to payout 50% in prizes over the long term, including many drawings. This accounts for both high and low payouts. You'll be happy to know that 100% of additional earnings benefit education. There are independently audited annual reports on our website that detail where every penny in lottery ticket sales are used. Hope this helps!

@ NCEL, Your explanation to Tenessa was a load of crap. If you can't afford to pay potential winners then why even have pick 3 or 4? If a player can prove their numbers were blocked and were drawn that should be grounds for a lawsuit. I suggest that anyone playing popular number combos from vending machines take a photo of the ticket on the screen before the actual purchase. If you're blocked then you have proof.NC Lottery
Hi, Charles, thanks for commenting! Setting a liability limit is a common practice with other lotteries. Lotteries have an obligation to only sell as many tickets as they can pay out in prizes should those numbers that trigger the limit be drawn in a drawing. The reason for this is to ensure that the lottery could pay out the prize money should those numbers hit!

Great question, William! The liability limit for Pick 3 is $5 million and the liability limit for Pick 4 is $10 million - not in sales, but in potential prize payout should a given number be drawn.

Isn't it sad that if the average North Carolinian would be the $100 per week in their savings account they would have $5,200 tax free.
