Atulkumar Ramanbhai Patel of Morganton tried his luck playing Keno and won a $400,000 prize.
Patel bought his lucky ticket for the June 14 drawing from Antioch Food Mart on N.C. 18 U.S. 64 in Morganton, a store where he works.
Carolina Keno lets you choose how many numbers, or spots, you play, and your choice determines your odds and the prize you play for.
Patel’s big win came in a drawing on June 14th when he matched all 10 numbers in a 10 Spot game to win the $100,000 top prize. Since he played for $4 per draw, his four shares grew to $400,000.
He claimed his prize on Thursday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $287,101.
Burke County received a $42 million grant, using money raised by the lottery, to help build a new elementary school. For details on other ways Burke County education programs benefit from lottery funds, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
