A celebration broke out in a Halifax County convenience store Monday night after Tyler Acree of Roanoke Rapids won a $100,000 prize.
“I just started running in circles around the store,” he laughed.
Acree said other people in the store got in on the celebration too.
“Everybody in there was jumping up and down yelling,” he recalled.
Acree bought his lucky $20 Stacks of Cash ticket from Cloud 9 on Premier Boulevard in Roanoke Rapids. He immediately wanted to share the news of his big win.
“I called everybody I could think of,” Acree said.
He arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim the prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,016.
Acree plans to use his winnings to pay bills and invest.
The Stacks of Cash game debuted in January with three $2 million top prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Two $2 million top prizes and four $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
The state provided $112.3 million in grants, using money raised by the lottery, to help build new schools in both the Halifax County Schools and Weldon City Schools districts.
